CorteXchange

CorteXchange from Cortex MMS, Inc. provides interfaces for Cortex MMS, Inc. customers and customers of other medical software vendors.

The chosen method of interfacing is to use an interface engine hosted by Cortex MMS, Inc. at the ADHOST collocation facility. These interfaces will consist of admission, discharge and transfer data from hospital systems to anatomic pathology labs; laboratory orders from hospitals and referring clinicians to anatomic pathology labs; pathology reports from anatomic pathology labs to hospitals and referring clinicians; and similar interfaces for other pathology testing equipment system vendors and radiology systems.

Cortex now offers an interface engine solution called CORTEXCHANGE.

An interface engine can transform or map the data to the receiving application’s requirements while the message is in transit so that it can be accepted by the receiving application.

Essentially, the import and export module from the sending application is built in a very comprehensive manner, capturing all potential data to be used in one interface. The application interface is built with a one-to-many concept in mind. These import/export modules then are connected to an interface engine so that the mapping, routing, and monitoring are managed by this system.

Benefits of an interface engine strategy are:

  • Reduces the dependency on multiple vendors to make changes in the format of messages to be sent or received
  • Leverages one import or export module from core applications (e.g., HIS, EMR, LIS, etc.) and distributes interfaces to multiple applications productively
  • Improved physician and client support through proactive interfacing monitoring and message log management
  • Enables flexibility to adapt to different HL7 message standards, XML healthcare standards, etc. as well as different application data
  • Lowers overall interface cost by re-purposing an application’s import / export module to multiple applications

If you aren't already experiencing an increase in requests form your physicians for interfaces with their Electronic Health Records (EHR) or Electronic Medical Records (EMR)  because of the passage of the Stimulus Package (American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009); you will.

Hospitals and physicians must submit orders electronically and store pathology reports in their electronic health records (EHR) in order to receive incentive payments under the HITECH Act. These incentives are approximately $44,000 per physician in increased Medicaid and Medicare payments.  Starting in 2015, primary care physicians not using qualified EMR systems will see their Medicare and Medicaid payments reduced.

Year of Filing 2011 2012 2013 2014 2015 2016
2011 $18,000 $12,000 $8,000 $4,000 $2,000 $0
2012 $0 $18,000 $12,000 $8,000 $4,000 $2,000
